User Roles & Permissions

Summary:

Understand the different levels of access in your CMS and what each role can do.

Why Roles & Permissions Matter

Roles control what a user can see and do in the CMS. This helps keep content secure and ensures editors only access the areas relevant to their job.

Common Roles in LEAP + Craft CMS

  • Admin – Full access to all settings, content, and configuration. Can create new users and manage site settings.
  • Editor – Can create, edit, and publish content but cannot change site settings.
  • Author – Can create and edit their own content but may require an editor or admin to publish.
  • Custom Roles – Your site may include roles tailored to your organisation (e.g. “Membership Manager”, “Media Contributor”).
